Ways of Distance Education

Online
Students can get educational materials and even pass tests via internet connection. Instructors and tutors can communicate with students with the help of email, or different messengers available in disposal. Students can download course assignments from the instructor and upload completed assignments to the instructor. Classroom environment can be created by involving students in sessions where they can communicate not only with tutors but also with their peers and mates.  Some online courses guide students through valuable resources on the Internet, such as the World Wide Web.

Video
Some specialized courses offer their attendants videotapes with a particular course.  in addition  to conferencing, handouts and assignments it is targeted to provide a comprehensive knowledge provision. On a schedule of their own convenience, students may visit the MCC Library during any of its scheduled   hours to view videotapes. There are different courses which use video materials in order to perform the best result and use of visual methods. Each course uses a text, a study guide and a syllabus in conjunction with the video lessons. Campus visits are required for orientation and testing.

In addition, some video courses make use of computer e-mail conferencing and electronic downloading of assignments from the Internet or from any designated computer station on campus.  Some courses require students to pay some amount of money, but the prices are not too high. The average cost of 1 video tape is within some dollars. Additional information can be obtained from the appropriate academic department on both campuses. Some of these courses may be available on METV; refer to its description below.

Television
This way of distance learning is beneficial to those who are not quite able to attend all the classes and perform required proficiency. There are video and audio lessons, and if you miss some, don’t worry much, you will be enrolled in special groups to watch or hear it in some separate time. Courses include three to five scheduled and required campus meetings for orientation and exams. Your tutors can organize extra course or additional session. Each course consists of a text and a workbook/study guide. Instructors provide a schedule for office hours and telephone contacts.

Students who consider courses by television should recognize the need for self-discipline relative to establishing individual study habits. Successful completion of courses results in the same transcript entries as regularly scheduled campus courses, including the same number of credit hours. Of course such facilities are not free of charge. Students may pay amount of money for using the abovementioned video or audio courses. Traditionally the sum is not very high; it may be just some dollars a month. If the service is presented by your study board at your college, all the needed info you can find there.

Videoconferencing
Other than distance learning courses, additional technology-based classes are offered via videoconferencing from rooms dedicated to this purpose on the Bradenton and Venice campuses. Using videoconferencing systems that allow two-way video and audio interaction, students can register at either campus and have complete access to a class originating on another campus, without making an inconvenient drive.
