Childhood & Special Education (39 credits). This course is a bridge between the worlds of child care and early education, between preprimary and primary programs. It presents effective ideas which were designed to give students a cohesive view of the what, why and how of developmentally appropriate practices. The program addresses principles of age-appropriateness, individual, social and cultural appropriateness. The courses were designed for current and future early childhood professionals working with young children ranging in age from three to twelve. Furthermore, the program covers the characteristics of learners with special needs, as well as some of the latest assistive technologies and new definition and classification system for mental retardation.
