Introduction to Sociology. This course discovers nature of human society and factors affecting its development. Criminal Justice. Examination of structures and decision processes of agencies that deal with crime and criminal offenders. An emphasis is placed on how practice is based on politically derived public policies, and how sociology can be used to analyze the practice of these agencies. Topics include criminal law, policing, court systems, sentencing, and corrections. The course consists of 5 lessons and 2 exams. Deviant Behavior. Here you can learn theory and research concerning major types of deviant behavior and societal reaction to such things as criminality, suicide, drug addiction, and mental disorders. Besides, you will explore causes and consequences of deviant behavior. The course consists of 10 lessons and 2 exams. Prerequisite: successful completion of the course Introduction to Sociology or other introductory course in sociology. IS
Race and Ethnic Relations. The course discovers racial and ethnic problems in America; causes and consequences of prejudice and discrimination. The course consists of 10 lessons and 2 exams. Prerequisite: 8 hours of coursework in sociology including Introduction to Sociology course, or an equivalent introductory course in sociology. IS
Elementary Research Techniques. Here you can learn about various research techniques in sociology: research design; collection, recording, and analysis of data. The course consists of 10 lessons and 2 exams.
Criminology. The course studies theories and research in criminal behavior and societal reaction to criminality. Students are supposed to study causes and consequences of crime. The course consists of 17 lessons and 1 exam. Prerequisite: Criminal Justice. IS
Juvenile Delinquency. This course provides the introduction of theories and research in delinquency. Causes and consequences of delinquent behavior among juveniles are also discovered in terms of this course. Prerequisite: the successful completion of the courses Criminal Justice and Elementary Research Techniques. The course consists of 5 lessons and 2 exams. IS
Sociology of Correction. Examination of history, operation, and problems of punishment. This course discovers patterns of prison organization, inmate group structure, personnel organization, and racism examined. Here the purpose and effectiveness of penal institutions are described. Prisons, juvenile institutions, parole, halfway houses, and alternatives to punishment studied. Course prerequisite: the successful completion of the course Criminal Justice.
