Ohio University offers Independent and Distance Learning Programs for those who seek obtaining degree in Mathematics, among them:
Basic Mathematics (4 credit hours). It is a developmental course in arithmetic and elementary algebra for students with unusually weak backgrounds. Credit applies as hours toward graduation but meets no other college requirement. No credits are granted to the student who has passed a higher-level mathematics course. Prerequisite: placement or permission. The course consists of 10 lessons and 2 exams. Tuition: IS= $564; CCE= $276
Consumer Mathematics (4 credit hours) – it is an application of elementary mathematics to day-to-day problems. In this course the special emphasis is on consumer topics such as compound interest, mortgages, and installment buying. Prerequisite: placement level 1 or 2 year high-school math; does not apply to Arts and Sciences requirements. The course consists of 12 lessons and 2 exams. Tuition: IS= $564
Algebra (5 credit hours). This course discovers topics in algebra including functions, linear equations and systems, polynomials, rational and radical expressions, quadratic equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, and inequalities. Prerequisite: the completion of Basic Mathematics or level 1 math placement. The course consists of 10 lessons and 2 exams. Tuition: IS= $700; CCE= $345
Pre-Calculus (5 credit hours). This course explores graphs, inverses, and operations of functions. It also studies polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. Also, students learn some additional topics from trigonometry and analytic geometry. Prerequisite: completion of the Algebra course or level 2 math placement. The course consists of 17 lessons and 3 exams. Tuition: IS= $700
Introduction to Calculus (4 credit hours). This course presents a survey of basic concepts of calculus. It is good for students who want an introduction to calculus, but do not need the depth of the discipline. Prerequisite: completion of the Algebra course or level 2 math placement. The course consists of 18 lessons and 2 exams. Tuition: IS= $564; CCE= $276
Elementary Linear Algebra (3 credit hours). Here you’ll learn solutions to linear systems, matrices and matrix algebra, determinants, n-dimensional real vector spaces and subspaces, bases and dimension, linear mappings, matrices of linear mapping, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, diagonalization. In this course emphasis is made on techniques and computational skills. Prerequisite: completion of the Algebra course or level 2 math placement. The course consists of 16 lessons and 2 exams. Tuition: IS= $589; CCE= $301
Calculus I (4 credit hours). This course studies limits and differentiation, including trigonometric functions. It also explores the derivative. The course consists of 10 lessons and 2 exams. Tuition: IS= $564; CCE= $276
Calculus II (4 credit hours). The course explores integration, logarithmic, exponential, and other transcendental functions; indeterminate forms, improper integrals, and techniques of integration. The course consists of 10 lessons and 2 exams. Tuition: IS= $564; CCE= $276
Calculus III (4 credit hours). This course examines parametric equations, polar coordinates, infinite series, and vectors. The course consists of 1 exam. Tuition: CCE= $276
Calculus IV (4 credit hours). Here you can learn about multidimensional topics, partial differentiation, multiple integrals. The course consists of 1 exam. Tuition: CCE= $276
IS – indicates, that the course is available in a print-based correspondence format. CCE – indicates, that the course is available in course-credit-by-examination format.
