Following Independent Study Program enables individuals to achieve their educational goals without having to give up other aspects of their life. This program allows students to participate in a quality educational process and to choose where and when to study.
Survey of Astronomy. This course provides general introduction to astronomy with emphasis on the structure of the universe beyond the solar system. Course topics may include historical astronomy, planets, comets and asteroids, the sun, stars and galaxies, interstellar matter, black holes, the "Big Bang" theory, and the evolution of the universe. For this course the familiarity with basic algebra and geometry is helpful.
Physical World. This course is designed for nonscience majors. It studies fundamental ideas of measurement, motion, energy, electricity and magnetism, heat, atomic and nuclear physics. It introduce the relativity and quantum phenomena.
Color, Light and Sound. This course was designed for nonscience majors. It examines physical nature of light and sound, including transmission, absorption, reflection, interference, and resonance. Course applications include analysis of musical instruments, acoustics, optical systems, perception of color and sound.
Each of the above courses consists of 10 lessons and 2 exams; 4 credits. Tuition: $564 per 1 course.
The Metric System. It is an introduction to international (metric) System of Units (SI) through lecture and laboratory experience. Course topics include history of and rationale for SI; SI and its rules for use; metric computation and conversion techniques. The course consists of 3 lessons and 1 exam; it contains 1 credit hour. Tuition: $156.
