General Astronomy: The Solar System. The course discovers principles of modern astronomy, summarizing human present knowledge about the Sun, Earth, planets, moon, and the origin of life. In this course, the science as a process is emphasized, rather than science as a list of facts. It is a course for non-science majors and its is science literacy (rather than proficiency). The math requirement is no more than college entrance level - simple algebra and quantitative reasoning skills will be applied to astronomical problems. It is approved for arts and sciences core curriculum: natural science. This is a self-paced course. There is one year from the registration day to complete the course.
The course consists of 3 semester hours; 12 assignments and 2 exams.
