| African and Afro-American Studies | The Black Experience. This course is designed to provide a clear understanding of the origins of the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade and the impact of this trade on Africa, Europe, and (Native) America, and to apply this understanding to contemporary American society to examine the roots of the nation’s cultural diversity. Credits for this course are granted by the UNC-Chapel Hill. The course consists of 3 credit hours and includes 14 assignments.
Introduction to African Civilization. It is an introduction course to the African continent. This course is intended to fulfill two primary purposes: to acquaint the student with the African environment – its peoples, their culture, and its past and contemporary society – and to develop an appreciation for African civilization – one that has made a major contribution to American society. The course examines geopolitical context, historical themes, and selected social, political, economic, religious, and aesthetic characteristics of both traditional and modern Africa. Credits for this course are granted by the UNC-Chapel Hill. The course consists of 3 credit hours and includes 13 assignments.
