Art History. The course studies the art from the earliest cave paintings to the experimental art of today. This program covers the Western tradition and the cultures of the Middle East, South Asia, East Asia, Africa, the Pacific Islands and the Americas. It combines knowledge and wisdom, to bring some intelligible order into the wealth of names, periods and styles which crowd the pages of most ambitious courses. With the help of insight into the psychology of the visual arts, it makes students see the history of art as a continuous weaving and changing of cultures in which each work refers to the past and points to the future, a living chain that still links our own time with the Pyramid age.
