Interactive Videoconferencing

Interactive Videoconferencing

- Classroom videoconferencing that applies high quality AV components, codecs and an interface so that they can be observed on the monitors.
- Desktop videoconferencing that utilizes a personal computer and videoconferencing software – systems, those price is less, but it can offer reduced resolution. Such systems can be applied both - by individuals and groups that have limited number of participants.

While giving instruction about transmitting through IV, the instructor should pay attention to all students. During the site’ lessons, different kinds of activities should be available. One applies such kinds of activities as performed in small groups, student presentations and an occasional break to make changes in the lesson. It is recommended to use various instruction methods from lecture to question-answer to small group activity on a regular basis every 10-15 minutes. Guest lecturers’ communication can also be performed into the classroom at the distant sites, because it leads to the involvement of the distant students into the communication. Visuals on the monitors maintain student interest and attention.

The distance education course should not teach, but entertain. It should be teacher-student interaction. During the study, extraneous noise and activity should be limited. During the study, the learners receive an active experience, because they are involved in the process. Instructors ask questions and pay attention to body language to observe the interest and comprehension of the students. An instructor should know how to apply the equipment and its main functions.

An instructor should know how to:
- switch on on the codec and the monitors.
- dial the distant site(s) for a link establishment.
- see that camera and field be focused at the origination site and at the distant site(s).
- establish the volume at the necessary point.
- make a dial out to a remote location.
- choose the appropriate data speed.
- reestablish echo-canceling capability.
- perform the process of switching to and from the document camera.
- use a computer to produce and transmit multimedia presentations.
- apply the VCR to broadcast a video for all locations.
- perform the link with the distant site(s).
- switch off the equipment.

Frequently, technicians conduct the setting up and monitoring of the videoconference. If there are no technicians, the instructor is responsible for this work. Problems can occur when the instructor is at another site or when a guest speaker looks for help. The distance educator can apply interactive videoconferencing effectively when used properly.
