Following Independent Study Program enables individuals to achieve their educational goals without having to give up other aspects of their life. This program allows students to participate in a quality educational process and to choose where and when to study.
Learning Strategies (3 credits). This course helps students assess current study behaviors and attitudes and then adopt techniques that increase effectiveness in managing time, taking notes, reading and comprehending text material, and preparing for exams. The course emphasizes regular practice and application of strategies discussed. It is especially recommended for new students who didn’t study very much in high school and/or have no well-developed system of effective studying. Prerequisite: freshmen only. The course consists of 6 lessons and 2 exams. Tuition: $428.
College Reading Skills (2 credits) - focuses on improving comprehension, interpretation, and evaluation of reading materials that are typical of college courses. This course moves from short passages to longer selections. It discovers speed reading techniques and vocabulary building. Here, the emphasis is on practice and application of skills. Prerequisite: freshmen or permanent standing. The course consists of 5 lessons. Tuition: $292.
Credit for Work Experience: Portfolio Development (4 credits). This course was designed to assist adults in analyzing and documenting college-level learning acquired from experience in employment and community volunteer work. Prerequisite: admission to the External Student Program or permission from the Experiential Learning Program. The course consists of 6 lessons. Tuition: $589.
