The Exceptional Individual – describes how to understand and work with children who have special needs and require specialized techniques and curricula in today’s schools. Here you can get an overview of special education. Course options include legislation, cultural diversity, collaboration, transition, standards, learning disabilities, emotional or behavioral disorders, giftedness, mental retardation, autism, traumatic brain injury, physical disabilities, communication disorders, and visual impairments and hearing loss. Most of the unit assignments consist of a series of short-essay questions and an activity.

Fostering Collaborative Efforts within Special Education. This course focuses on gaining conceptual and practical knowledge of the processes and strategies available for (preventive) conflict management in special education. In addition to the twelve unit assignments, students are required to write a final project. This course is only offered online.

School Curriculum Design – presents the essentials of curriculum development, emphasizing K–12 curriculum design policies, procedures, and decision points. Focal points are scope, sequence, articulation, materials selection, and forces that affect curriculum planning and implementation. The course satisfies certification requirements where a curriculum planning course is necessary. Most assignments require several short essays.

Conflict Resolution. This course helps education professionals deal with the conflict they encounter in school settings and to help them design strategies and programs for educating children to deal with their own interpersonal conflicts. Several assignments require participation in group discussion. Besides the twelve unit assignments, students are required to develop the following: a lexicon of terms used in the course, a project proposal, and a final project.

Multicultural Education. This course helps teachers share ideas and develop strategies for meeting the diverse needs of children in the K–12 setting. Students may take this course for two or three credits, by completing one or two projects. (2 credit hours - $595; 3 credit hours - $855).
